Innoz Technologies bags MIT International award for Telecommunication

Trivandrum, April 4, 2011: Technopark based Innoz Technologies bagged prestigious MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) award for telecommunication at MIT’s Technology Review EmTech India Conclave in Banaglore. Innoz received the award for SMSGyan, a mobile based search engine that can work with different databases to give answers of up to 500 characters – from dictionaries, cricket, stock market and gadgets price lists. The product has been a hit, accessible to over 150 million customers in India.

Since 1999, the editors of Massachusetts Institute of Technology Review have honoured the young innovators and their exciting inventions and research. This year MIT recognized the TR35, a list of technologists and scientists, all under the age of 35. “Sixty per cent of India does not even know what Google is because computer penetration is so low. On the other hand, with 771 million subscribers, more than half of India owns a mobile. Growth opportunities for a service like SMSGyan are huge because now the information is just an SMS away,” MIT institute said.
With more than 150 million users, SMSGyan has become one of the fastest growing mobile services in India. Recently Airtel has joined hands with Innoz to launch AirtelGyan. “MIT recognition clearly gives us a strong belief that we can also build international companies from India. If a Silicon Valley exists with brains of twenty somethings creating some of the most exciting businesses and Fortune 500 Companies, so can we innovate and create successful brands and businesses. The success of Innoz demonstrates that the digital economy is the domain of younger people who quickly adopt new technologies. The dream of producing technology success stories such as Microsoft/Google/Facebook from India is never too far,” said Deepak Ravindran, CEO, Innoz Technologies. Deepak Ravindran is rated among the 18 hottest technology innovators from India for 2011 by MIT institute.
